Greenwich Leisure Services Committee tonight decided to apply for lottery funding, submit an outline planning application and negotiate leases for the planned Royal Arsenal Heritage Centre.
Costing £7,739,000 the Centre will incorporate the vast wealth of material in the collections of the Greenwich Borough Museum and the Local History Centre. The Council has already allocated £1.5 million, the Woolwich Development Agency £1 million, a bid has been submitted for funding from KONVER II, and English Partnerships (who will be managing the site) are in discussion with the Council and other bodies regarding further financing.
The Committee also agreed that English Partnership be asked to consider designating the Guard House as a Tourist Information point to be managed by Greenwich or jointly with themselves.
