To Mirco, in Italy, I have to tell you that Greenwich has always been pronounced "Grin-idge", by the people that were born and brought up there (I am one of them). It is THE correct way to pronounce "GREENWICH" - whether you have the benefit of an expensive private education, or are an ordinarily educated local Greenwich resident. Greenwich is "GRIN-IDGE", and NEVER "GREN-IDGE"! To John Hallion I have to say that I agree with you - The Skylon was magnificent - It made a Statement - My parents left me behind when they went to see it (I was only 4 at the time!). The scale and impact of the Dome is insignificant, compared to its environs. I fear that the Dome may be considered, in the fullness of time, as a Celebration of Decadence. An oxymoron this may be, but does anyone disagree with this view? Please email me. Best wishes to everyone in the world on the Eve of the dawning of the penultimate year of the second Millennium. I hope to be with you all, a year from now, when we can all celebrate the beginning of the Third Millennium. Philip Moore

dome externally is too low profile it does not make a powerful statement unlike the adjacent canary wharf tower and unlike the festival of britain "skylon" internally i would like to see more reference to j christ who's millenium it is despite my lack of enthusiasm for him

For all you confused people who are planning to celebrate the "Millennium" on Jan 1, 2000, please check out the OFFICIAL GREENWICH ROYAL OBSERVATORY web site, http://www.rog.nmm.ac.uk/mill/index.htm where you can find out that the NEW MILLENNIUM STARTS ON JAN 1, 2001. Shame on this site for promoting ignorance.

I hope someone there will read this! I have an unusual request. I am a schulpturist/impressionist from Utah, USA. I would like to do an impression of the Queens hand and donate it to her as a gift. I have pictures of my work and references. My problem is how might a person be able to make a request like this to the Royal Family and Queen. If you can give me any direction-- it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Fenton Thompson P.S. I like your site and would like to come back and spend some more time here.

I am disgusted that Greenwich has told the public they must not go within half a mile of the Dome with their cars? Is this a democracy or what? First of all, so-called VIPs are invited to the NYE party by invitation only (at our expanse!!) now we are told not to drive there (sio who pays for the Dome anyway, Mr Leader). What about the disabled, any special facilities? Like perhaps a funicular or something? Disgraceful! And no doubt this comment will be whipped off the web site as soon as I leave it on. So much for democracy and freedom of speech with Greenwich Borough!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am assisting a lady in locating a public house believed to be in the Greenwich area, outside which her grandfather was photographed in 1902. He was married in Greenwich so she believes the pub will be there. Greenwich, Lewisham & Southwark local history libraries have been unable to assist and we have already eliminated the North Pole Public House. Any help would be appreciated. Copies of the photograph can be sent on if you can assist with any suggestions. Many thanks.

Does anybody know if access to the old Royal Naval College Chapel and the Painted Hall is going to be easier (or more difficult?) now that the University of Greenwich has taken over the site? I was at the Jools Holland concert there last month and I got the feeling that the stuffy old elite had been taken over by a different (but just as stuffy) new elite. A year before I saw Anuna, (Michael McGlynn - Riverdance etc.), at the same venue - At least one could get a drink there then, and the security people were polite. Any comments?
