My wife & I visited Greenwich in early November of this year. Our tour of the Old Royal Observatory was one of our most interesting events. The tour was conducted by Mr. Brian Paterson, his commentary and obvious interest in his subject made it very pleasant & informative.

Looking forward to the 2000 celebrations, However I am very concerned about the increasing traffic build up. I am aware that there are plans to reduce the load on the A2, but with what result. As we near the event this problem can only worsen, to the extent that it will be impossible to get to work anywhere near on time. This problem should be open to public debate. It would be nice to see some express bus services, and less cars on the road. But the inherant lack of public transport in the area forces the uses of these hideous and planet killing boxes. We need a solution, and soon, otherwise we will all be celebrating from the inside of our gas masks.Get it sorted! and lets have a wicked Party... . regards, nic

As a professional cartographer Greenwich has a special place in my heart. The next time we visit England we will stay in Greenwich and see London from there.

Born in Blackheath (Kidbrook Park Rd) during WW2 but spent most of my childhood growing up at my Gran and Grandad Poynter's at 21 Brand Street. I feel part of you Greenwich. Why? Because I was born at 36 Circus Street on 20/11/35. My first memories were of Greenwich Park and (as my mother said----) of Queen Mary walking Elizabeth and Margaret through the park. I came to Australia in 1949. Is there any special event at the Millenium for those of us born in Greenwich? Best wishes from one of you!

I did some military training in the RAMC's radiography unit at the military hospital in Shooters Hill Road way back in 1955/56. I forget the exact name of the hospital. Does the buildind still exist, and if so what is its use now? It had a very imposing facade and gates at that time, Georgian I think.

I love your country and I love Greenwich. I was there on a little tour in 1975 and shall never forget it. I'm on your Internet site to get a little history about how the "Greenwich time" started and how it was decided to pick Greenwich to be at ZERO longitude. I remember standing over the rail (that represents ZERO longitude)inlaid in the ground outside the observatory. Anybody got any info. Love to hear from you, wonderful friends and forefathers.

Had a lovely evening entertaining a well-known Greenwich architect and artist and his custodian wife who had a hard time stopping him from dancing the tango in the metro, attempting to buy a famous Parisian 1900's restaurant with one of his priceless drawings, carefully detached from the paper table-cloth. As his host, I suggested to the restaurant patron that we would settle for something a good deal more modest, like our evening meal, for instance...
She had many things to say about the almost endless variety of buggars in the metro : singing buggars, poetical buggars, or just ordinary buggars. There was this old black buggar, about 65 65 years old who warmed everybody,s hearts with verses about smiles and warm sun, etc, but also about his yearning for tenderness and nice round bronzed breasts he could nestle among...or even suck. End of nice story, as a dozen female faces retreat behind their copies Tele 7 Jour, Paris-Match, etc.
Much good cheer, good company, over to you, Le Corbusier !

All the above is highly exagerated, see you on sunday bearing a bottle of medicianally approved vin rouge appellation controlle by the Generalissimo.

I was brought up in Greenwich from being born, left to live and work in other areas home and overseas, but have always had to come back, just thinking about the times when I was younger playing on the heath and in the park. The Park, there is no other place like it, I live up the west end now but always come to greenwich to see my family and roots.

ça ne m'étonnerait pas que votre site soit l'un des meilleurs sites locaux sur le web, à mon avis. Félicitations !
